The AI Scribe Program, led by Canada Health Infoway, is a national initiative providing up to 10,000 fully funded, one-year AI Scribe licenses to eligible primary care clinicians to help reduce administrative burden and improve workflow efficiency. Eligible primary care clinicians will receive a one-year license for a prequalified AI-powered tool that helps automate note-summarizing, document patient visits, and generate structured notes.
The long-term goal of the program aims to empower clinicians to collect, use, and share patient health data more effectively and effortlessly, enabling easier participation in connected care initiatives while streamlining their daily interactions across the healthcare system.
AI scribes are advanced tools powered by artificial intelligence and natural language processing that assist clinicians by transcribing and summarizing clinical encounter notes, giving clinicians more time with patients while improving workflow efficiency. These tools can capture a variety of data, such as medical history, clinical observations, treatment plans, and patient questions, directly from conversations during consultations. This helps with note completeness and reduces time spent on paperwork.
The AI Scribe Program is now officially live and available to eligible primary care clinicians across Canada.
The program supports up to 10,000 fully funded AI scribe licenses for one year, enabling clinicians to adopt trusted, validated documentation tools that reduce administrative burden and improve workflow efficiency.
Clinicians can visit Infoway’s national landing page, select their province or territory, and follow a guided process to explore available solutions, determine eligibility, and register.
The program is available to eligible primary care clinicians practicing in Canada, including:
Family physicians
Nurse practitioners
Registered nurses in remote communities
Pediatricians providing longitudinal, community-based care
Infoway is collaborating with provinces and territories to implement the AI Scribe Program. Program availability, access, and execution may vary by jurisdiction, with each approach tailored to align with the unique needs of the region and clinical practice requirements.

Yes. Eligible clinicians who are already using a pre-qualified vendor tool, including those with pre-paid agreements, may participate.
Clinicians with active contracts are encouraged to speak with their vendor directly about how their transition into the program will be handled.
The following vendors have been pre-qualified through a national procurement process for the AI Scribe Program based on their ability to meet security, privacy, and clinical usability standards.
Autochart AI, from Aya Health Technologies
Empathia AI, from Empathia AI
CareWay/CoeurWay, from Medfar
Mika AI, from Mikata Health
AutoScribe, from Mutuo Health Solutions
Pippen, from Pippen AI
ScribeBerry, from ScribeBerry
Tali, from Tali AI
Nexus AI, from WELL Health Technologies
Many of the selected AI Scribe vendors demonstrated the ability to integrate with the majority of electronic medical record (EMR) systems currently deployed across primary care in Canada.
All selected vendors are headquartered in Canada, reinforcing the strength of homegrown innovation and supporting the advancement of trusted Canadian digital health solutions.
Infoway issued a national Request for Pre-Qualification (RFPQ) in February 2025. Vendors were evaluated based on their:
Alignment with national and jurisdictional requirements and standards
Data security and privacy practices
EMR integration capabilities
Ability to support primary care settings
This rigorous process ensured only secure, effective, and standards-based solutions were pre-qualified.
Is there a resource to compare vendors?
Yes, clinicians will have access to two vendor matrixes, one matrix comparing a list of features, and the other comparing different EMR integrations. Clinicians are also encouraged to conduct their own research when selecting a solution.
You can view the matrices and all pre-qualified vendors by visiting the national AI Scribe landing page and selecting “All Vendors”: https://aiscribe.infoway-inforoute.ca/
Clinician contracts and support are the responsibility of the selected vendor. Infoway is not involved in individual contracting, onboarding, or issue resolution once a clinician selects their tool.
Up to 10,000 licenses are currently available. Infoway will monitor uptake and maintain flexibility in how licenses are distributed across jurisdictions until that threshold is met.
Licenses are assigned to individuals and each eligible primary care clinician must register to receive their own license.
We understand that many primary care clinicians provide care across multiple sites. Under the AI Scribe Program, each eligible clinician may receive only one license, regardless of how many clinics or locations they work in.
However, if a clinician is using a stand-alone (non-EMR integrated) AI Scribe solution, they are able to use the tool across multiple clinical sites. We appreciate your interest and your efforts to integrate these tools into your practice.
To ensure the program benefits as many clinicians as possible, participants are expected to remain active users of their AI Scribe tool.
Clinicians who are inactive for three consecutive months, defined as using the tool fewer than 10 times per month over that period, will have their license revoked and returned to the program pool for redistribution.
We understand there may be occasional fluctuations in usage, and no action is taken for short-term or temporary dips in activity. This approach helps make the most of the limited number of licenses available and supports equitable access across the program.
Switching between AI Scribe tools during the 12-month period is discouraged, as it can disrupt clinical workflows and affect continuity of support. Clinicians are encouraged to carefully review vendor information and select the solution that best fits their needs before registering.
However, if you feel that your current tool is no longer the right fit, clinicians may submit a request by filling out the following form here.
Your experience and full participation in the AI Scribe Program is very important to us. Our team will carefully review your request and do our best to determine whether a change can be accommodated.
Please note: Requests to switch tools will only be considered within the first three months of use. This approach helps support a stable and meaningful experience with your selected tool throughout the remainder of the program.
The AI Scribe Program includes a roster of pre-qualified vendors that were selected through a national Request for Pre-Qualification (RFPQ) process. This initial roster reflects a point-in-time selection of vendors who both chose to apply and who met all mandatory requirements, achieved the minimum evaluation threshold, and passed the solution demonstrations and successful contract negotiations.
It’s important to note that this vendor roster was developed specifically to support this initial phase of the program and to guide the distribution of up to 10,000 licenses during the time-bound implementation period. This roster does not represent all AI scribe solutions currently available or emerging in the marketplace. The list was shaped by those who submitted responses during the application timeframe and demonstrated alignment with defined criteria like clinical usability, EMR integration, privacy and security, and alignment with national standards.
If your current vendor is not on the list, it does not mean the solution is unsuitable. It simply reflects that the vendor either did not apply or was not part of the qualified roster for this particular process during this initial implementation phase of the program.
While this initial RFPQ process is now complete, Infoway will consider exploring future procurement processes and/or evaluations over the next several months based on market interest, evolving program needs, availability of funding, or additional licenses. We encourage vendors and clinicians to stay connected by visiting https://infoway-inforoute.ca or reaching out to procurement@infoway-inforoute.ca to signal interest in future opportunities.
Only clinicians using a pre-qualified vendor can participate in this current phase of the program. However, we recognize the growing innovation in this space and remain committed to continuing efforts that advance trusted, effective, and interoperable digital health tools.
Participating in the AI Scribe Program provides eligible primary care clinicians with a fully funded one-year license for an AI scribe tool from a pre-qualified vendor in their region. AI scribes help streamline clinical workflows by automating repetitive tasks such as transcribing and summarizing clinical encounter notes. By reducing administrative workload, this technology helps to not only save time but also alleviate clinician burnout, promoting a more balanced and fulfilling work experience.
No. The goal of AI scribes is not to replace clinicians or administrative staff but to complement existing workflows, creating efficiencies that reduce bottlenecks, and improve overall care delivery. AI scribes help automate time-intensive administrative tasks, allowing clinicians to focus their full attention on patients and get valuable time back.
The AI Scribe Program is part of Infoway’s broader effort to create a connected, interoperable healthcare system. By prioritizing solutions that meet national interoperability standards, the program ensures AI scribes can facilitate secure and standardized data exchange across jurisdictions and care settings, laying the foundation for a more connected and efficient healthcare system now and into the future.
Your perspective is vital in shaping the future of AI-powered clinical documentation in Canada, and we welcome your input.
If you have feedback related to the product or tool you are using (e.g., functionality, usability, or technical performance), we encourage you to share it directly with your selected vendor. Each vendor is responsible for supporting the evolution and improvement of their tool and addressing user-specific concerns.
